Andrew Wicker
Having grown up in Swindon, Andrew went up to Somerville College, Oxford in 2003 to study music under the tutorship of Dr Owen Rees. At Somerville, he sang with the Chapel Choir and also served as Music Society President. After graduating, Andrew studied for a PGCE in secondary music teaching at Oxford Brookes University. Andrew is currently Head of Music at Kingsdown School, Swindon and leads the curriculum of the department as well as the busy extra-curricular programme.
Andrew is in demand as an accompanist and soloist performing with various groups in venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, The Cadogan Hall and The Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Heavily involved with music within The Salvation Army, he has accompanied the vocal groups at both regional and national Music Schools working with some of the Army’s finest young musicians and conductors.
Andrew has been the Rehearsal Accompanist of the Swindon Choral Society since 2008 and has accompanied them in concert performances of, amongst others, Robin Nelson’s
Star Cantata and George Shearing’s
Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare. In 2013 and 2019 he played in the orchestra for the society’s world premiere performance of Nelson’s
Atlantic Odyssey. His composition
Hear the Angels Sing featured in previous Christmas Concerts and the choir also gave the first performance of
How Can I Keep from Singing? which was composed for the choir.
